It was at 10 am when my American host dad took us to the coastal city of Tacoma as there was the Pacific Beach Festival and Clean Up. We were given grabbers and a bucket to collect the trash from the beach, we cleaned for like 3 hours and I was complaining- uff it was hard and it was for nothing! - I first thought. Then I gave the bucket back and listened to the organization’s thank you speech that organized it.
Every week Surfrider gets just 30 people to volunteer to keep the beach clean. The founder was standing there and as she was saying in a very proud voice: ‘ 30 people helped our ocean survive today!’ - it hit my brain. Omg, these people take pride in what they do, they intentionally invest their time knowing that they are doing a good thing even if it is small. I in turn all my life used to do stuff and always say that it is not enough, it is insignificant and NOT important.
That founder taught me the lesson that completely changed how I approach my life- I now think that everything I do is meaningful and important. After this all my blaming habits just died! I cleaned the kitchen today and felt so proud that I made my home clean and killed all bacteria that can get into my organism. Before I used to feel so bad that I wasted my time cleaning for nothing. I used to always devalue and belittle whatever I did and it made me feel so bad, I was always like- uff I just wasted my time.
Now whatever I do is a conscious decision to do good for myself and others and it is ALWAYS important
That is just one transforming thing out of hundreds that I got from traveling.
