1. You don’t have to finish everything in one go
- Changes are saved on Common App’s servers
- You might not have all the necessary details when you start
- Breaking down the task into smaller chunks can be helpful
2. Your universities will not know which other universities you are applying to
- There is no order of priority or preference; colleges are organised alphabetically
3. You can only apply to a school once in an application cycle
- If you have applied in a previous cycle, you will need to roll over your account from a past year. If you get rejected in the early round you may not apply again in the regular round.
4. Treat deadlines very seriously!
- Applications are due by the end of the day (23:59) of the deadline in your timezone, not where the university is located.
- While student-submitted materials (personal data, activities, awards, essays and so on) must be uploaded onto the platform before you submit, you’ll be able to send in applications before recommendation letters are finalised.
5. You should consider submitting applications a few days early if possible
- Servers may slow down in the final day and hours prior to deadlines
